Green Destinations is one of five labels recognised internationally by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), which assesses and certifies tourist destinations according to a hundred or so criteria covering local governance,nature and landscape, culture and traditions, climate and well-being, and support for stakeholders. Accredited by the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), this not-for-profit organisation establishes and frames the basic standards for sustainable development in the travel and tourism sector, for use by professionals and governments. Destination Granville Terre et Mer, which has already held the Gold level label since 2023, hopes to renew this level of commitment in this new assessment , and even achieve a higher distinction. This recognition would reward the ongoing commitment of the region and its stakeholders to the transition towards sustainable tourism.
Green Destination 2025 Otgtm 1For several years now, Granville Terre et Mer Destination and its various stakeholders have been carrying out a number of initiatives to promote tourism that is more respectful of the environment and local residents. The skills sponsorship scheme set up in 2024 with the Avril association, through the voluntary commitment of Tourist Office staff to preserving the foreshore, illustrates the collective work towards more responsible practices in favour of the region. This approach was rewarded in 2024 by the Horizons Trophies in the “social responsibility” category. Consolidating this collective and territorial action, the unanimous vote for the first tourism balance plan in favour of sustainable tourism places local residents at the heart of the development dynamic, which respects the well-being of all. At the same time, the roll-out of the simplified soft mobility plan, with the aim of combating areas lacking in alternative mobility solutions to the car, through the introduction of a number of new services. the car, by setting up a free bus network, bike hire for residents and summer shuttles, all contribute to the ambition of making Granville Terre et Mer a low-carbon destination. The Charter to regulate visitor numbers to the Chausey Islands illustrates the synergy between the area’s private and public players in preserving its resources. With this new certification, the Destination wishes to consolidate and pursue this global commitment.
