A little history
The D-Day landings of June 6, 1944 marked a major turning point in the Second World War, symbolizing the beginning of the liberation of France and Europe, and re-establishing the values of Freedom, Peace and Reconciliation. Thousands of soldiers from various nations landed on the beaches of Normandy to reconquer the occupied territory. After three months of fighting, the liberation of Normandy, including Granville and the surrounding area, was completed on July 31, 1944, followed by the liberation of Paris and the whole of Europe. Today, relics, cemeteries, historic sites and commemorative events bear witness to this war, perpetuating the memory of these major events.
