This great cultural event, organised by the Ministry of Culture since 1984, aims to bring the richness of our heritage to as many people as possible through special events, unusual visits, and exceptional openings in more than 50 countries. Tens of thousands of museums, monuments, churches, theatres, businesses and shops, gardens… open their doors to share their history and special features. This year, the European Heritage Days will be devoted to the architectural heritage, which shapes our landscapes and our cultural memory. According to the définition de l’Académie française, architecture is « l’art de construire, de disposer ou d’orner des édifices ». This year’s theme will therefore focus on the artistic and technical realisations of architecture which, over and above their functions and uses, which evolve over time, constitute the very essence of architecture;voluent au cours des temps, constituent souvent un point de repère important tant du point de vue de l’histoire locale, nationale et européenne que de la mémoire collective.
