Festival des Voiles de Travail

Wednesday, August 21 to Sunday, August 25, 2024

5 days of discovery and activities around the maritime heritage to be experienced in the port of Granville.

A tribute to the sea

its men and women

The Festival des Voiles de Travail was created in 2012, and last year attracted almost 50,000 visitors for its tenth edition. A nautical festival of course, like its older counterparts, but also, and above all, an educational festival designed to raise public awareness of theeconomic and cultural importance of the maritime past around which the life of our coastal regions has been structured. The original character of this event combines activities at sea, events in the harbor and onshore events, giving a complete overview of what working sailboats were all about.

Great fishing

and shellfish

For centuries, Granville has lived to the rhythm of the sea and its carnival. For more than 400 years, Granville has been a cod port; a coastal fishing port, from the Mont-Saint-Michel oyster to whelks and, more recently, scallops, making it France’s leading shellfish port; a port of privateers and enterprising shipowners, the Festival des Voiles de Travail aims to bear witness to this rich past, in which sailing was first and foremost a means of subsistence.
