Passage of the Olympic Flame in Granville

At the initiative of the Département de la Manche, and in anticipation of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the town of Granville, which has been awarded the “Terre de Jeux 2024” label, will welcome the passage of the Olympic Flame through its streets on Friday, May 31, 2024. To celebrate this event, a Flame Village will also be set up from May 27 to June 1, 2024, with numerous sports-related events.

The route

The Flamme will set off from the Christian Dior garden at 3:05pm. The 20 torchbearers will take it in turns to cover a 4 km route via avenue de la Libération, Place Foch, Rue des Juifs, Boulevard Vaufleury and Pointe du Roc, before running down Rue du Port and finishing on Boulevard des Amiraux to the finish line at the 8 Milles Nautic water sports center at 4pm.

To celebrate the passage of the flame through the streets of Granville, 300 students have learned the official dance of the Olympic Games and will perform a choreography at 2pm at the 8 Milles Nautic water sports center. Around 2,300 students from the Granville Terre et Mer area, plus 100 high school students from Dinan, will be spread out along the route to support the torchbearers. Three musical groups will also be on hand to entertain the torchbearers: two roving bands and a fixed band at the finish point.

From 7 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, parking will be prohibited on roads along the route. Traffic will be banned between 2pm and 5pm at the latest along the torch route, and will gradually reopen after the Olympic flame has passed. Any vehicle parked in spite of the ban may be penalized and removed from the road. To enable local residents along the route to park their vehicles with peace of mind, parking will be free throughout the town, including the maritime area (port parking lot), from 7am to 5pm.

The village

of the Flame

The Village de la Flamme will be open from Monday May 27 to Saturday June 1, and spread over 3 activity zones: in the Salle de Hérel, on the beach and on the grassy areas in front of the CRNG. From Monday to Friday, 1,000 schoolchildren are expected to spend the day in the Village de la Flamme, with a wide range of physical and sporting activities, as well as exhibitions and games related to the Olympic Games. The village will be open to the general publicevery evening of the week from 6pm to 9pm, as well as all day on Saturday, for activities on Hérel beach linked to team sports and organized by Granville sports clubs.

The Olympic Flame will head for Mont-Saint-Michel, the Flame’s stopover town. Departure at 6:20 pm.
