From the royal foundation of Granville in the 15th century, through the development of the seaside resort and shellfish port of today, to Newfoundland fishing and sporting activities, the collections of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de Granville tell the story of the town and its founding myths. Exhibition: Feathers of the Great War The First World War was a rich source of literature for almost a century. For the first time, many soldiers knew how to read and write, and took advantage of the long waits at the front to put their stories down on paper. Some combatants became writers, just as some writers became combatants. In the rear, numerous accounts of civilian life were also published. These different facets are presented in the exhibition through novels, poems and correspondence by Apollinaire, Barbusse, Cendrars, Colette, Dorgelès and many others. Free admission to the permanent collections. Portraits and landscapes, paintings, drawings and sculptures from the 20th century are displayed alongside a selection of books, manuscripts and correspondence. Born in 1907 in Granville, where he died in 1992, Richard Anacréon donated 280 works of art and 550 antiquarian books, constituting an unrivalled collection reflecting the art of the first half of the 20th century.

The project house

4 rue Lecarpentier, Granville

Open house. 8pm to midnight. Free admission. The Maison du Projet, which opened its doors on April 15, 2022 in one of the outbuildings of the Logis du Roi, is a place for exchange and information about the work that the Musée d’art et d’histoire has been undergoing since 2015. Following the sudden closure of the site for safety reasons, the question of the future of this historic building is being raised by Granvillais, supporters and the curious. The Maison du Projet presents the history of the building, the Logis du Roi, the research carried out and the work undertaken around the collections since 2015. Access is free and open to all. Passing through the doors of the Maison du Projet is also access to the Jardin de l’Œuvre, which offers a breathtaking view of Granville, the port and beyond.
