After studying at the Beaux-Arts, visual artist Sylvain Allaire spent several years touring exhibitions, before settling in Granville over 12 years ago.

After studying at the Beaux-Arts, visual artist Sylvain Allaire spent several years touring exhibitions, before settling in Granville over 12 years ago. There, he produced numerous watercolors, before diversifying techniques and formats, painting notably large paintings on thematic series such as boat bows, pine trees, skies or the roofs of Granville.

“When I travel, I always take sketchbooks with me to reproduce my surroundings,” he confides.

Also a publisher for the past 4 years, his workshop on rue des Juifs produces an annual calendar, postcards and, above all, his book ” Balade Granvillaise “.which is on sale at theTourist Office, as well as his recent DIY paper models of the Dior house and the Casino tower. It’s clear that the artist likes to surprise and diversify his work, reconnecting with his childlike soul.

“I find inspiration by wandering around the area, between the narrow streets of Granville, in the Lucerne forest or in the Lude valley in Carolles, where I like to recharge my batteries”.
