Brigitte Richart

After working for Granville’s three main museums, Brigitte Richart now devotes all her energy to the Christian Dior Museum. Spotlight on this passionate and fascinating woman.

To meet

Brigitte

After graduating in communications and art history, Brigitte naturally turned to the conservation professions. Her passion for the arts began in high school. Since then, she has worked in museums all over France, in the private, public and voluntary sectors, with different audiences each time.

“I’ve been immersed in the museum world since I was 20. “

After spending her entire childhood in the Paris region, a happy coincidence – or not! – led Brigitte to Granville, her husband’s birthplace, to take over the management of the Musée Richard Anacréon. Wishing to work as a network for Granville’s three municipal museums: the Musée Richard Anacréon, the Musée Christian Dior and the Musée d’art et d’histoire, Brigitte went on to manage them all. In 2024, she decided to refocus on the Christian Dior Museum, with a 360° vision.

The magic of fashion through

collections & exhibitions

Brigitte is in charge of the Christian Dior Museum collections. She oversees their conservation, preservation and restoration.

“For the Christian Dior Museum, exhibition topics come from a variety of sources and are then collectively approved by the board of directors of the Présence de Christian Dior association. Each one has brought me a new discovery. I spontaneously think of the ‘Chapeaux Dior’ exhibition and my meeting with Stephen Jones, who fell in love with Granville. “

Each exhibition requires intense preparation, which stimulates curiosity and enriches knowledge. Brigitte’s encounters with other enthusiasts cross her path and leave a lasting impression. Setting up an exhibition is like ballet dancing. Each piece of the collection has to be in its place, giving rise to a harmonious whole, a story to tell.

“Beyond the aesthetic aspect, I make sure that the exhibitions are educational and understood by the widest possible audience. “

Today, fashion enjoys greater visibility than it did 10, 20 or 30 years ago. Exhibitions are flourishing in art venues and museums.

A challenge for

welcoming the public

The Christian Dior Museum is housed in the Dior family home. It can only accommodate 50 visitors simultaneously. Reservations are now strongly recommended, but there are always spare places available for those who decide at the last minute.

“We’d like to improve the way we welcome the public, because we’re seeing peaks in visitor numbers. Nothing alarming, but on certain days, at certain times of the year, we are obliged to refuse admission. A technical study will determine the possibilities for improving circulation and visitor flow management within the house. “

The Christian Dior Museum offers free admission every 1st Sunday of the month. It’s an ongoing special operation that appeals to a wide audience, especially local residents. It’s designed to be inclusive.

“My workplace is also my place to recharge my batteries. Thecall of the sea, which I contemplate every day, is strong. I like to go swimming in my spare time. So much so that one day, who knows, I might take on the challenge of swimming around the rock.

“Theatmosphere in the gardens early in the morning is bewitching. The colors and lights are sublime. It’s at these times of day that the peace and quiet is at its height… That I can exchange a few words with the gardener…”
