To meet

Dominic

Born in the UK, Dominic grew up in Burgundy, France. He completed his higher education in Lyon and then Rennes, where he obtained a Master’s degree in art history, specializing in the restoration of built heritage. After a succession of experiences, most recently at the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay Ecomuseum in Vains, he arrives in Granville in the summer of 2023, where he has kept all his childhood memories with his grandparents. As a guide and lecturer, he promotes the area’s rich history and culture by creating and leading guided tours of Granville and the surrounding area. In his opinion, the best way to animate a tour is to create a dialogue with the visitor, and to make it more lively by putting himself on stage: this is why he regularly dresses up during his guided tours. What he loves most of all is working in an area that is dear to his heart. And he considers himself fortunate to be able to meet people from all walks of life and to see that they, too, have a strong bond with the area.

Wherever you go in Granville, you’re bound to learn something about the town’s heritage. It’s all about discovery, and that’s what’s so wonderful about it.

Dominic

His anecdotepreferred

The anecdote he likes to tell visitors during his tours is thestory of the Vendéen siege. Wishing to reach the Channel Islands in 1793, where many of their royalist allies had taken refuge, the Chouans decided to cross the English Channel via the town of Granvillais.

Their quest failed, however, due to their penchant for alcohol. In the midst of the siege of Granville, they discovered the reserves of eau de vie and calvados in the cellars of the Upper Town houses. Wishing to recover from their emotions following a particularly fierce battle, they fell to drink, and it was a very “weakened” royalist army that found itself repulsed by the Granvillian forces, despite being outnumbered 4 to 1.
