Magalie and Adrien

La Ferme de l'Épine

Just a few kilometres from Granville, nestling in the lush green countryside of Saint-Pierre-Langers, Ferme de l’Épine embodies the revival of local agriculture, committed to human contact.

To meet

Magalie and Adrien

Since 2016, Magalie and Adrien Grimaux have been passionately raising geese, a few cows and chickens, while processing their products on site in their own laboratory. It’s an adventure for two, built on conviction and humility. Both graduates of a BTS in animal production in Saint-Lô, Magalie, originally from Tarn-et-Garonne, and Adrien, a native of Cotentin, were farm workers for many years before taking over the farm. Their objective was clear from the outset: to combine livestock farming, direct sales and on-farm hospitality, while remaining true to their desire to work with grazing animals. ” We didn’t want to go into market gardening, we wanted to keep the link with livestock and meadows,” explains Magalie.

The choice of

The goose

The choice of goose was obvious: a hardy animal, adapted to grazing, and still little represented in the region. This bold choice has enabled them to stand out from the crowd and offer a range of original farmhouse products, produced using traditional methods. Their workshop means they can react quickly and have invaluable autonomy in the face of market ups and downs.

Direct sales and

Short circuit

Day-to-day life on the farm is busy: the day starts with milking the cows and processing the milk, while Magalie looks after the poultry. The afternoons are often devoted to making products: rillettes, confits, foie gras, preserves… not forgetting sales in the shop or at markets. This meticulous organisation also means they have time for their children, who are a priority. Their approach is fully in keeping with the logic of short circuits. “Direct sales are the best way for us to produce,” explains Adrien. “We sell almost everything without an intermediary, and we keep in touch with the customer. Their products can be found at the Sartilly and Champeaux markets, as well as at the CarahMeuh farm in Vains, the Château de Chanteloup shop, and on the menu of the L’Hippocampe restaurant in Saint-Pair-sur-Mer. With their sights set firmly on the future, Magalie and Adrien are planning toopen a snack bar on the farm, where they can showcase their produce in a convivial setting. ” We’d love to be able to welcome people and give them a taste of what we do, but it’s going to take time to get everything up and running,” smiles Magalie.

An attachment to

Animal welfare

And finally, an anecdote that says a lot about their attachment to animal welfare and life in the open air: here, there are no cattle trucks to move the cows from one field to another. ” We got them used to being tethered like ponies from an early age,” says Adrien. It’s an image that sums up thespirit of the farm: simple, gentle and authentic.
