Arthur Laffaiteur

Arthur has been cycling the paths and roads of the Destination for years. A mountain biker since childhood, it wasn’t love at first sight. Today, cycling is an integral part of his daily life.

Mountain biker

since childhood

It was at the age of 8 that Arthur discovered mountain biking alongside his father, on the trails of Destination Granville Terre et Mer. At the time, the passion wasn’t immediate: he took a break before getting back in the saddle at 15. This time, it clicked. Two years later, at the age of 17, he started competing.

His career

by bike

Now 19 and studying in Avranches, Arthur juggles his studies with training. He is a member of the Union Cycliste Mortainaise, in the U23 category, where the level of competition is high against riders aged 18 to 22. His time with the Mortain team has enabled him to move up a gear, with coaching, a course in Spain and participation in international cups – an intense experience with his club mates. He now competes solo on demanding circuits of 6 to 10 laps, between 3 and 5 km each, with both positive and negative gradients.

A complete sportsman

What does he like best of all? The technical nature of the descents, with their roots and jumps, and the intensity of the climbs, which demand precision, strength and mental strength. Before each competition, Arthur follows a well-established ritual: a warm-up on a roller to get the legs moving, a meal of rice and ham three hours before the start, and then the time to collect his number and find out who’s on the starting list before concentrating in his own bubble. A sport of commitmentMountain biking is a sport of commitment and personal challenge. You have to be prepared to ‘hurt yourself’ in training if you want to make progress. Between road outings, the trails of Saint-Pair-sur-Mer, Saint-Planchers or the forest of La Lucerne, and muscle-strengthening sessions, his weeks are well filled. Whatever the season or the weather, Arthur pedals – even more so when he’s training with friends.

The pleasure

sport

With sport as his watchword, Arthur took part in the Granville 2025 triathlon, in the M relay and S solo events, finishing 1st in his category. For the 2026 season, the calendar has not yet been drawn up, but one thing is certain : he will be taking part in the Normandy championships.Mountain biking is technical, and you get to enjoy the scenery. In triathlon, on the bike, you go flat out: there’s no time to look up! In the end, the two are very different… and very complementary. “

Her fondest memory

At my first competition in Sourdeval, the bar was set very high and I ended up on the podium: it was my first victory!
