Meet Simon, a promising young sportsman

Slide, fly, ride

Simon's daily life

Simon

the wingfoiler

At just 13 years of age, Simon already has gliding in his blood. After learning his trade in the Optimist, he discovered wingfoil in 2024 thanks to Gaël, an instructor at 8 Milles Nautic, who invited him to join the wing section in September. Since then, he’s never let go of his board or his foil.

Simon is a thrill-seeker, and he has progressed rapidly: two months to tack for the first time, and the jibe arrived just after that. He trains twice a week, and even three times a week when a competition is coming up. He shares this passion with his family, his father and his brother Martin, both of whom have also been infected by the wing virus. Wing racing isn’t just about gliding, it’s also about physical fitness. Clarisse, the 8 Milles Nautic coach, has concocted a programme just for him: running, squats, push-ups… Enough to keep him going on the water, even when it’s choppy.

“I like the speed and the feeling of gliding over the water, which you don’t get as much with an Optimist.

Its spots

de wing

Simon has already winged it just about everywhere: > In Normandy (Saint-Martin de Bréhal, Chausey , St Pair, Cherbourg, Breville, Ouistreham, Langrune) > In Brittany (Brest) > And even abroad. And even abroad, with a particular favourite being Naxos, Greece, where he sailed in dreamy turquoise water – his best session to date.

His next

Défi sportif

Simon’s competitions are set to continue:

  • Langrune on 12 October
  • The French Championships from 18 to 24 October
  • The WAF, which he is looking forward to. For the latter, he has chosen the big course and is aiming for a top 10 finish.
His favourite conditions?

When there's a wave.

He loves to surf without using the kite, letting himself be carried solely by the foil. Pure freefly. Freefly consists of surfing the chop or swell, using the propulsion of the wing as little as possible in favour of the slope of the sea. In terms of equipment, he’s equipped with a DUOTONE, a 70-litre board and a 700 foil.

When he's not on the board

Simon is anything but inactive: he surfs, skateboards, plays badminton, climbs… A real sports jack-of-all-trades!

The thing he does most often during the day

Check Windguru to see if there’s wind to go riding, obviously.
