Léo Vannier

And meet Léo, traileur and adopted Carollais

Léo

runner

Léo, 25, réside à Caen, but as soon as he can, he takes the train direction Carolles, in the family home where he has many childhood memories. <He’s been coming to Granville Terre et Mer since he was 7 and has fallen in love with the destination in every season, whether it’s for a walk, work, a swim or just to recharge his batteries. He particularly likes to come in winter, to enjoy the peace and quiet, the feeling of being alone in the world, and the intense colours of the season: browns, greens and blues. And the Destination offers him a varied playground for his sport: trail running.

A sportsman since childhood, sport is for Léo a space for épanouissement, a moment of pause that allows him to slow down in a sometimes frénétic world and to focus on just one thing: the moment présent. It was after 14 years of swimming that he gradually took up running and then trail running. This sport offers him the opportunity to explore new places from a different angle.

Depending on his objectives, Léo has a varied playing field in the Destination. He runs in the valley of Le Lude, where it’s possible to work on levelling, on the digue of Kairon for more specific training, or the athletics track. <Galfione’s athletics track is one of the most beautiful I know. It overlooks the sea and you can feel the sea air.”

Although trail running allows him to décover new destinations, Léo hikes régulièrement. And when he’s not on the seaside paths or in the Normandy bocage, he ventures à the mountains. These are always unique, timeless experiences. During an itinerant hike in the Mercantour with his family and friends, they carried a lost shepherd’s puppy from refuge to refuge in their backpacks, to return it to its master.

His next

Défi sportif

Léo will be on the start line of the Transju’Trail, over the 42km format, on 7 June, then at the Trail de la Roche d’Oëtre in mid-October, over the 37 or 88km, the choice has not yet been made. Race numbers have been snapped up for the Jullouville trail; Léo would like to take on some ‘off’ projects, like running the GR223.

Its location

preferred

Lucerne Abbey and the forest that surrounds it, whether for running, walking or spending time with the family. The abbey has that timeless, very ready-made, slightly mystical feel, with the forest bordering it. À only 30 minutes from Carolles, yet it seems in the middle of nowhere – just nature and that édifice.

The word

of the end

« I’m aware of how lucky I am to enjoy such a beautiful environment, but it is sensitive and fragile, and I would really like future generations to be able to enjoy it too. In the current environmental context, I hope that will be the case.”

Sound

Leitmotiv

Descaping is not a function of the number of kilometres travelled: you don’t have to go to the other end of the world to discover beautiful places.”

A souvenir from Lucerne Abbey

For my 22nd birthday, we spent the day with my family in the forest of Lucerne. It was a magical moment, surrounded by my nearest and dearest in such a special environment.
