From Jenny and Izia

from Caen

Jenny and her daughter Izia, originally from the Caen region, came by Nomad train: “We arrived on Friday evening by train at around 8pm, and the journey went really well – we were seated and warm! It was great to arrive in the heart of the city, and I even managed to find my way around easily, even at night, to get back to the hotel. The return journey also went well, even though it was very busy on the Sunday evening, and we were able to make the journey sitting comfortably. “Even though they already know Granville and its Carnival: “We’ve been to the Carnival about 4 or 5 times since my daughters were born. I’ve even introduced my sister and some friends to it: there’s always someone willing to spend a day with us every year! “Our stay began with the evening of the opening ball, so we went to see one of the concerts and quickly began to soak up the festive atmosphere. “They spent their two nights at the Hôtel du Musée, located near the Christian Dior Garden and Museum: “! The hotel was very comfortable and modern, with a very warm welcome and a great location. We even enjoyed the restaurant attached to it, which I recommend: it was good and refined.”

Jenny and Izia met up with Fanny Letrouvé, from the “Marité, Hermione, naufrage en mer Ule” float, the day before the big cavalcade, to collect their disguises, and spent the evening together, mostly at the funfair: “We were delighted to be part of the Letrouvé family float, and to meet up with Fanny, her family and friends. They were all incredibly kind and caring! They all shared their stories about the float and the carnival in general, and I felt like I was one of them for a day”, they added about the cavalcade:

“It was magical to experience this great cavalcade from the inside. Of course, we’re planning to continue with the carnival, and we’ll certainly be going by train from now on. It’s so much easier to get from Caen to the heart of the carnival. And why not book a night’s accommodation too. “

Jenny is looking forward to sharing her experiences with others:

“I’ll certainly be going back with my family and friends. It was an exceptional experience that we’ll remember for a long time! We were really lucky to experience it. Thank you again. “

From Monique and Jacques

from Cherbourg

Monique and her husband Jacques are from Cherbourg. They know nothing about the Granville Carnival, so it’s a complete discovery for them!

The journey by Nomad train from Cherbourg, with a change at Lison, went smoothly and the couple walked to the Hôtel du Musée. Their Carnival costume was delivered directly to their room. They had a very good experience at the hotel: “an excellent stay in this brand new hotel with friendly staff and a very good breakfast! “. Monique and Jacques took advantage of their Friday afternoon to discover Granville, which they had never seen before, before queuing up for the Carnival opening concert, which they said was “great, with a great atmosphere, the band had incredible energy! It was a great experience! “. They had spoken to Mathias from the “La Famille Carnaval” float by phone ahead of their visit, and met their entire team on Sunday morning at the fishing port, where they joined the group for lunch before setting off for the Grand Cavalcade: “Everyone came to talk to us!”. While Jacques helped with security in front of the float, Monique stayed on the float between the various dances and the shower of confetti: the noise, the music, the crowds were incredible! A once-in-a-lifetime experience! I was so proud to be the star on the float! It was really great! And with such splendid weather! All the ingredients were there for a great party. Only one regret: having to leave the float to catch our 6pm train back to Cherbourg.

When we asked Monique and Jacques what they took away from the experience, they said:

“What we’ll take away from this Carnival is the strong feeling of solidarity towards the carnival-goers, of kindness and cheerfulness. They don’t take themselves too seriously, and their town is deeply rooted in them. They’re proud of their Granvillaise!

And the final word: “Thanks to Mathias for welcoming us into this great team, the Carnival Family. We’ll be recommending the Carnival to those around us and will treasure the goodies and costumes!”
