You're setting sail

with the fishermen

Meet up in the morning at Granville’s outer harbor, where you’ll be greeted by fishermen Ian and Alban, who will take you aboard “La Grande Ancre”, a shellfish fishing boat. You’ll meet the crew, and then it’s off to the Chausey archipelago, with your kayaks in the middle of the fishing gear. For just over an hour, you’ll chat with the fishermen, who’ll introduce you to their trade and the boat, explain the equipment used and show you around the gangway. You then sail to the east of the archipelago through the wild islets, before arriving at the anchorage. Enjoy a picnic lunch, either on board or on a secluded beach, with the crew, who continue to share their shellfish farming skills with you.

You're off on an adventure

kayaking

Ian, fisherman and qualified canoe and kayak guide, explains how to handle the kayaks. Designed for beginners, these kayaks allow you to feel safe in pairs. As you settle in, you’ll notice the feel of cool water on your hands and the sound of water lapping against the boat. Ian guides you for a two- to three-hour ride, allowing you to get up close to the pebbles and explore the archipelago while the fishermen work on their concessions.

Up close

seafood products

As the tide goes out, you’ll approach the mussel beds, where the stakes appear, followed by the oyster beds. Thanks to the kayak, you can navigate as close as possible to the mussel beds without motor noise. Once the sea has receded, you meet up with the fishermen in the oyster beds. Alban and Ian explain the work they do. Awaken your taste buds with an oyster tasting at the foot of the park. The sea begins to cover the oyster beds, enveloping the bouchots. Climb back on your kayaks to join the crew at “La Grande Ancre”, who then head for Granville, leaving the shellfish beds to their own devices…
