A nautical activity

on an unusual medium!

You’ll meet up at the 8-Mile Nautic base in Bréhal, where you’ll meet Cédric, your guide and manager of the base in Saint-Martin de Bréhal. After getting kitted out, you’ll head down to the beach, where you’ll be puzzled to see 2 clearly visible pink boats! They are pirogues belonging to theRoses en Baie association, which works to support women affected by breast cancer. These pirogues enable them to take part in physical activity, and are on loan to the base so that you can enjoy the Experience!

You paddle as part of a team

in a coordinated way!

Cédric explains that manoeuvring the pirogue requires perfect coordination between the participants, the helmsman and the 3 paddlers. Once you’re on board, you’ll realise that without good communication, the pirogue will go round in circles! And be careful not to tip yourself over the edge to avoid falling off! You then set off again in the direction of the anchorages, paddling steadily and changing sides as soon as the first paddler’s “hop” sounds.

You are sailing

in the heart of bouchot mussels

After the laughter of taking charge of your pirogue and the concentration of reaching your goal, you’re greeted with a sense of wonder and disorientation: Cédric explains the production cycle of the bouchot mussel and the work of the mussel farmer. You move around without touching the bouchots, in this very special world. Cédric then gives you a mission: to collect translucent seawater from a glass bottle. Then the energy returns as you set off again from the parks, racing the second pirogue for the pleasure of being in control of your craft!

You discover

the art of salt

around local products

After the effort, the comfort! After disembarking, getting the pirogues back on the trailer and a trip to the changing rooms, you’ll all meet up in theconvivial area of the base to discover an original workshop: making salt from the seawater collected during your expedition! Meanwhile, you can enjoy a buffet of products 100% made on the Destination. With your taste buds perked up, you can watch as the water gradually evaporates, revealing the salt crystals… Once the salt has been revealed, you can taste it and take some home to spice up your dishes with this salt made in Bréhal.
