Green Destinations label: gold level

Gold level

Green Destinations label

After Bagnoles-de-l’Orne last year, Granville Terre et Mer is the second French destination to receive recognition from the international organization Green Destinations acting for sustainable tourism.

Our Territory has been awarded a gold level which recognizes the work undertaken by many players, of which you are surely a part, on the subject of responsible tourism. This award is yours too!

Green Destinations, a certification accredited by the World Council for Sustainable Tourism

For Destination Granville Terre et Mer

This label is one of 5 recognized internationally by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council1 (GSTC). Accredited by the United Nations system, in particular the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and sustainable tourism experts, this non-profit organization establishes and leads the basic standards for sustainable development in the travel and tourism sector for professionals and governments.

Normandy united in the face of climate change

Normandy, via its institutional bodies – the Region, Normandie Tourisme and the federation of Normandy Tourist Offices – has already been working for several years to take account of the challenges facing tourism in the face of climate change. More than just a statement of fact, our actions are designed to anticipate the tourism of tomorrow. Our Tourist Office has decided to make a further contribution by piloting the Green Destinations initiative for our region. The work was obviously cross-disciplinary, and it was indeed a sustainable snapshot of the Destination that led to this award. Numerous socio-professional, private and public players, including yourselves, took part, thus enhancing the value of the work we’ve already been doing for the region for several years.

Winning the Gold Award is great, keeping it is even better!

This recognition is valid for 2 years, and therefore leaves room for new actions to maintain it, and perhaps even take the final steps.

In order to stay on course, this certification will be fully integrated into the new tourism strategy, currently being written. In a first for France, the tourism plan for the Granville Terre et Mer area will be modelled on the Green Destinations criteria!
