Diplomatic or commercial, negotiation has developed considerably, and so has its teaching. It is a discipline in its own right, with its own logic and terminology. We don't know enough about the fact that it was the Papacy, as early as the end of the Middle Ages, that established a set of practices in this field: a know-how that has survived to the present day. There can be no history of negotiation without passing through Rome, which is now the second most represented country in the world.
