During sales periods and big promotions like Black Friday, it’s pretty hard not to succumb to the temptation of impulse buying, so as not to miss out on any bargains. To help us ask ourselves the right questions before every product or service purchase, Marie Duboin Lefèvre and Herveline Verdeken have developed the BISOU method. It’s a practical tool for responsible consumption and sobriety. More concretely, BISOU is a mnemonic to help you remember the 5 questions to ask yourself:
- B for Need,
- I for Immediate,
- S for Similar,
- O for Origin,
- U for Useful.
The idea of the BISOU method is not to say that you shouldn’t buy anything, but rather that you should buy consciously and check that it meets a real need. In this article, we’ll be focusing on the letter O, for Origin. Indeed, one of the best ways to consume better is to buy locally, and give priority tolocal crafts and short distribution channels.
