What to do in Aprilabout Destination Granville Terre et Mer

What to do in April in Granville Terre et Mer?

In April, follow the rhythm of the tides in Destination Granville Terre et Mer! According to the national calendar, the official date of spring is March 20. But it’s in April that temperatures get milder, days get longer and the French start getting out and about again. And at Destination Granville Terre et Mer, we invite them to join in with the rhythm of the tides as soon as their “hibernation” comes to an end. And why? Because we’re the destination for Europe’s highest tides. Because we invite you to enjoy several experiences in the course of a single stay, and even in the course of a single day. Because that’s what we’re all about: living and going with the tides, organizing our lives around the tides.

The first

high tide

of the season

On Destination Granville Terre et Mer, you may have to walk a long way to get to the water’s edge… Then, about six hours later, the sea is at the very top of the beach. This coming and going is called the tide. In France, the tidal range is the highest in Europe in the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, in the Destination Granville Terre et Mer area: 14.5 metres, the equivalent of a four-storey building! And from April 8 to 11, 2024, it’s a high tide, meaning that the coefficient is equal to or greater than 100. And only 2% of tides exceed coefficient 110, including the 1st of spring in Destination Granville Terre et Mer.

Admire the show

of rising waters

To contemplate it, it’s best toarrive about 1h30 before high tide. And to enjoy the combined spectacle of sunrise and sunset, remember that in April on these dates, the sun rises between 7.15 and 7.30 am, and sets between 8.30 and 9 pm!

Ideal for fishing

Take to the foreshore on foot and collect a few shellfish – cockles, clams, oysters, mussels, etc. – for personal consumption. – for personal consumption. It’s always an experience and a guaranteed culinary delight at the end. Be careful, however, to respect the regulations and practice this activity gently to preserve the resource. For the April high tide, fishing will take place in the mild weather of the early afternoon. You need to be on site 2 hours before low tide, and leave the fishing site at low tide to avoid being surprised by the rising tide.

Fishing on foot

Gentle techniques

At Destination Granville Terre et Mer, we prefer gentle, selective and fun techniques for sustainable fishing, as recommended by the foreshore mediator.

Brand fishing

The aim is to identify the marks left by shellfish, particularly clams and cockles, on the sand. Knives and claws are the most appropriate tools for this type of fishing, and even just your fingers!

Piss fishing

A traditional prairie shellfishing technique, using a piquot or triangular shovel to strike the ground in such a way as to create vibrations. These vibrations stress the shell, which closes and releases a small jet of water, betraying its presence.

Salt fishing

Handy for knife fishing, without hurting the knife. When you spot a keyhole, pour in salt and wait a few seconds. The disturbance created by the increased salinity encourages the mollusc to emerge from its hiding place. Now’s the time to catch and measure it!

Festi-Récré

The spring festival for families

For the past 17 years, Festi Récré has been the festival for young audiences during the spring vacations. From Wednesday, April 17 to Wednesday, April 24, the Tourist Office offers children aged 2 to 14 300 events at 39 sites in Destination Granville Terre et Mer. On this occasion, 56 partners open their doors to festival-goers. Through workshops, walks, shows and other intergenerational activities, they will be sharing the values of the Destination: maritimity, preservation, rejuvenation, simplicity, creativity and conviviality.

Unusual tours

The differences and similarities between ” Pinceaux et Fourchette “, created in 2023, and ” Saveurs et Créateurs “, new in 2024… While “Pinceaux et Fourchette” offers a behind-the-scenes look at artists’ studios, “Saveurs et Créateurs” allows visitors to talk to craftspeople. And yes, there are differences! An artist is a person who performs any of the creative arts. This can range from painting to music. He or she is usually someone who creates art for art’s sake, without necessarily being tied to a tradition or craft. Artists often explore new ideas and concepts, and are more interested in aesthetics than function. An artisan is a skilled worker who makes things by hand. It’s someone who creates utilitarian objects or works of art following a tradition or craft. Artisans are interested in the quality and function of their creations, and make a point of respecting the standards of their craft. While ” Pinceaux et Fourchette ” concentrates on Granville’sQuartier de la Haute Ville and Rue des Juifs, ” Saveurs et Créateurs ” has a wider influence on other streets in Granville, and even on other towns in the area. On the other hand, it goes without saying that both tours are designed to reduce their carbon footprint. Most of the program can be managed on foot or by public transport, thanks to the Granville Terre et Mer Community of Communes’ Neva bus network.

The Upper Town and the Port of Granville

under the spring lights

The Destination plays and adorns itself with different lights and shades every season. The Upper Town of Granville, open on both sides to the sea, is bathed in a light that is both lively and soothing between its streets and alleyways. The port of Granville, meanwhile, is at times a restful postcard, open to the blue of the sea, and at other times a lively place when the fishing boats disembark. The Office de Tourisme Granville Terre et Mer invites you to discover the town’s must-see sites during the spring vacations, just like any other time of the year, by following Dominic, the guide, sometimes a privateer’s mousse, sometimes a whelk reporter or another character who has witnessed history.

Christian Dior Museum

New exhibition

Christian Dior, visionary couturier

Exhibition from April 6 to November 3, 2024

“After the success of the 2023 exhibition, Christian Dior, the genius of a creator, the 2024 exhibition continues the exploration of the links between the couturier and his birthplace, and shows the decisive influence of his childhood environment on his career as a designer through the museum’s collections. the decisive influence of his childhood environment on his career as a designer through the museum’s collections. Three stops, spread over the villa’s three levels, closely combine Christian Dior’s personal journey with the components of the New-Look imagined at the end of the war in 1947. The Belle Epoque in Granville in the early years of the century, the childhood garden and the omnipresent sea are evoked, followed by the adventure of creating the Maison Dior.the adventure of the creation of the Maison Dior on avenue Montaigne and the presentation of emblematic creations from the different lines throughout the 1947-1957 decade. The tour ends with a reverie of the Orient: models inspired by Japan, the country he dreamed of as a child in the vestibule of the villa Les Rhumbs, are offered for contemplation. “

Best wishes from Granville 2

Exhibition from April 6 to November 10, 2024

The exhibition ” Bons Baisers de Granville 2 “, the collections of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire, at the Musée d’art moderne Richard Anacréon also opens on April 6, 2024! Bons Baisers de Granville 2 is the second part of a three-year cycle of exhibitions featuring the collections of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire at the Musée d’art moderne Richard Anacréon. It has been conceived in parallel with the studies and work leading up to the planned reopening of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire in the Logis du Roi, and will be partially renewed each year. From the royal foundation in the 15th century to the flourishing seaside resort and shellfish port of the 21st century, the collections of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de Granville tell the story of the town, its founding myths and the clichés conveyed by tourists, painters and privateers.
