Temporary ban

During the summer period, when a water quality analysis reveals levels exceeding acceptable thresholds, a temporary bathing ban is introduced for « notice of contamination ». The mayor of the commune then issues a arrest banning bathing. Measures are immediately taken by the local authorities to identify any causes of the pollution. In addition, regular monitoring prélèvements are carried out in the days that follow, until the quality of the water once again complies with standards, allowing the elevation of the ban.

Preventative prohibition The quality of bathing water is influenced by meteorological conditions. High precipitation and unfavourable tidal currents can lead to pollution from both land and sea. In collaboration with the health authorities and the departments responsible for managing public sewage systems, the inter-municipality has set up a proactive monitoring programme for bathing water quality on the most sensitive beaches in the area. In the event of an incident on the sewage systems or a deterioration in the quality of the rivers and rainwater outlets, bathing and fishing are prohibited;swimming and recreational fishing are prohibited in advance until analyses show a return to satisfactory water quality.

How is the quality of bathing water monitored?

The quality of bathing water is subject to regular monitoring by the health authorities between 15 June and 15 September each year. As a result, 19 beaches are monitored along the Granville Terre et Mer coastline. relies on data transmitted directly from measuring stations located at the outlets of watercourses. It also has a valise for measuring microbiological parameters, enabling results to be obtained within a few hours.
