K'Roll Surf School

At 34, François is a local. Originally from Granville, he is now a surf instructor in Carolles. Let’s go and meet him.

To meet

François

At 34, François is a local. Originally from Granville, he attended school there before moving to Rennes to study Sports Science after his A-levels.

Passionate about water sports, he obtained his professional lifeguard qualification in 2015 and went on to work, amongst other places, at the Tournesol swimming pool, an iconic venue in Granville.

In 2022, François opened a swimming school in Saint-Martin-de-Bréhal, ‘Les Petits Canards’, and ran lessons for children during the summer.

His career then took a new direction when he decided to train as a surf instructor. After obtaining his BP surfing qualification two years ago in Quiberon, he spent a season at the Vanasurf School in the northern Cotentin. Building on this experience, he took the next step by launching his own surf school in Carolles in February 2026.

A passion

which brings together

From a very young age, François spent his holidays between Brittany and the Landes. It was on these wave-lashed coasts that he discovered surfing and developed a genuine passion for the sport.

A few years later, Carolles naturally became his favourite spot, an unmissable meeting place for sharing sessions with his surfer mates.

It’s no coincidence that François chose to set up his surf school in Carolles. When he was younger, he would have loved to have easy access to surf lessons close to home. Today, he wants to offer this opportunity to the younger generations and make the sport more accessible in the area.

The example of the K’Roll Surf Club also reinforced his desire to take the plunge. Seeing a community of enthusiasts come together around the sport confirmed to him its potential and the growing interest it is generating locally.

A friendly atmosphere

As soon as the conditions are right, snow sports enthusiasts turn out in force. François coaches young people, beginners and experienced surfers alike who want to hone their technique. What he particularly enjoys isthe friendly atmosphere that surrounds this activity, driven largely by local residents.

For him, surfing is above all a way to share, learn and build connections. He particularly enjoys seeing his groups progress over the course of the sessions and encouraging interaction between surfers of different ages and abilities.

Ultimately, François would like to build a real local community around surfing. His aim is to enable local young people to practise all year round, much like a sports club, whilst also offering them courses in Brittany or the northern Cotentin.

He is also planning to develop an activity focused onhelping children feel comfortable in the sea. This initiative is part of his desire to raise awareness among the youngest children about the coastal environment whilst teaching them the basics of safety at sea.

Like many surfing enthusiasts, François has travelled along numerous coastlines in search of the best conditions. In France, he has travelled the length of the Breton coast as far as the beaches of the Landes. Abroad, his travels have taken him to Portugal, Spain and Indonesia – destinations renowned for the quality of their waves and the richness of their surfing culture.

Its location

preferred

The Valley of the Painters holds a special place in François’s heart.

This natural setting, just a few minutes from his home, is his refuge when he wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

He enjoys going for walks there with his son and his dog, in a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

His period

preferred

As for her favourite time of year, it’s between September and October.

There are fewer visitors, the temperatures remain mild and the waves continue to offer great surfing sessions.

It’s a special time that allows her to settle back into a more relaxed rhythm after the intensity of the summer season.
