The first Granville Carnival – with organizing committee – took place on February 7, 1875.
At a time when cod fishing was the port’s main activity, the Terre-neuvas departed around Mardi Gras, and Carnival was the last celebration on land before setting sail. Today, it remains one of the three great carnivals to have survived, with its own specificities and customs. The 150th Carnaval de Granville is eagerly awaited, and will take place from February 9 to 13, 2023. Over the course of five days, this great festival will bring the region to life in a convivial atmosphere. Carnival is an unforgettable celebration of mischief and derision, mocking local, national and international history! Some 3,000 Carnavaliers put on a show to the delight of the ever-growing number of visitors!
