An event

at the heart of Granville's DNA!

A Unesco World Heritage Site since 2016, Carnaval de Granville is celebrated every year during the 5 days preceding Mardi Gras.

This tradition dates back more than a century, when expeditions aboard terre-neuvas were prepared for Newfoundland and Saint-Pierre et Miquelon.

You’re invited to join the carnival performers on theRue Couraye float for a total immersion experience !

You start the party

right from the opening concert!

On arrival, we meet you at the Granville Terre et Mer Tourist Office. After introductions, Emilie will give you your “Carnival kit”, including tickets for the opening concert and an eco-cup bearing the 150th Carnival logo. She’ll share with you all her tips for discovering the city and the key moments of Carnival. You then drop off your belongings at your room in theHôtel au Bout du Quai, just a stone’s throw from the SNCF train station. Once you’ve rested up, you’ll put on your first costume of the evening! Then off to the Maison Carnaval for the opening concert, headlined by Marcel and his orchestra! Atmosphere guaranteed! *Illustrative photo of the 2023 opening concert with Soldat Louis.

You meet

your chariot team

Saturday mornings are free! Discover the simple pleasures of Granville by strolling through the market, also in the Carnival atmosphere. You then put on the costumeagreed with your float’s referent, Emmanuelle, whom you met the day before during the opening concert. You have a meeting with the participants of your float on rue Couraye, at the Calvaire traffic circle for the children’s cavalcade. Then get your most original disguise out of your suitcase and dare to take part in the “ça tire, le défilé”, scheduled for 6pm. During this offbeat parade, the audience’s applause meter determines the best costume! Then, at 7:30 p.m., you’re in for a real treat with the “Le Roi” fireworks show, before spending the evening in music with the marching bands.

You participate in

Grand Cavalcade

After a lie-in at theHôtel au Bout du Quai, you’re off to the Hangar du Carnaval, where you’ll meet up with the Rue Couraye float team for a picnic, before heading down to the fishing port. Then it’s off to the Grande Cavalcade! Aboard the float or at its feet, you follow the procession in a crazy atmosphere with the carnival-goers! You’ll dance and sing non-stop, with the public right there with you. It’s easy to see why the people of Granville have been attached to this tradition for 150 years… But 5 hours later, with the music still in your head and your hair full of confetti, it’s time to leave… Unless you’ve decided to stay until Mardi Gras! * *Accommodation only valid from February 9 to 11, 2024.
