Important information

Bathing in cold water carries risks, particularly cardiovascular risks, and should not be taken lightly. Only people of legal age can join, after filling in the health form. Each outing is supervised by a BNSSA-qualified person. Outside the water, the cap worn by participants must be visible and easy to spot. The aim of the association is to make this sport safe and to promote its benefits.

Preparation

of a sportsman!

On a grey, foggy or sunny winter’s day, you’ve come to the Plat Gousset, the emblematic promenade and beach on the outskirts of Granville Casino. There you’ll meet the members of the “Au Bain Quotidien” association, founded by its President, Anne Radovic. Au Bain Quotidien was founded in May 2023 as a result of her interest in the benefits of cold-water sea bathing, which she has been practising with a few other bathers since November 2021. Its aim is to make cold water bathing safer and to raise public awareness of its positive effects. After getting to know each other, Anne and the volunteers present will brief you on the procedure to follow, in particular to reassure you about any fears you may have. Accompanied by the song of the seagulls, you then get ready: undress, take your blood pressure for safety, and put on your cap and gloves. Then, all together, you head for the seawater pool… The chill in the air is already getting to you, and you take a deep breath: “I can do it. Anne and the volunteers encourage you and you step into the sea…

A natural shot

well-being

As Anne advised during the briefing, you start by wetting your face, then quickly enter the water up to your shoulders. You take long, deep breaths to regulate your heart rate. This calms any survival reactions your brain might trigger. The first two minutes are the hardest! Once you’ve spent the first few moments in the water, you’ll notice that your body relaxes and the temperature is maintained. The bathers’ phrase “once you’re in, you’re in” takes on its full meaning! You feel relaxed, your heart rate stabilises and you quickly feel the benefits. In fact, there are many: cold water, and cold seawater in particular, boosts the immune system, strengthens the cardiovascular system and acts as a natural anti-inflammatory and anxiolytic. During this time, you may feel as if your body and mind are being cleansed. Your mood is also boosted, and you splash around laughing, under the curious and intrigued eyes of the strollers.

An experience

of overtaking

of oneself

You experience these moments as if suspended in time. But after 10 minutes, you have to get out! You quickly leave the water. You feel euphoric, with no desire to get dressed. However, to avoid any inconvenience, you dry off immediately and put on several layers of clothing. You then all debrief your experience together over a hot drink and a snack. You feel relaxed and full of new energy. During this convivial time, you’ll receive a booklet of best practices for cold water bathing, your certificate for your baptism and a souvenir photo of the experience! This could well be the first of many, now that you’ve joined the association. What’s more, you’ll be able to swim with the association’s branded bathing cap included in your membership!
