You get to know

of the Abbey's soul

Nestled in the heart of the Thar Valley, the Abbaye de la Lucerne stands as an unchanging witness to centuries gone by. On arrival, you’ll be greeted by Julie or Brice, guardians of the secrets of this ancient site, ready to guide you through the centuries. Your adventure begins with a playful exploration of the Abbey, immersing you in the echoes of prayer and song that have vibrated within these walls since the 12th century. As you wander the restored corridors, each stone tells a story of faith, art and resilience through the ages, revealed by your passionate guides. But this is only the prelude to your quest. The time has come to write your own chapter in the history of the Abbey. Under the centuries-old vaults, a workshop like no other awaits you. With tracery points, sledgehammers and medieval stone chisels in hand – suitable for apprentices of all ages – you’re ready to tackle your block of material, under the watchful eye of Julie or Brice.

Then place

to sculpture!

In an atmosphere of conviviality and echoes of the craftsmen of yesteryear, you and your fellow adventurers help each other to bring stone to life. Inspired by the soul of the Abbey, you carve a bas-relief, not only as a tribute to medieval art, but as a personal imprint left throughout history. A shared experience, where young and old come together in a creative, intergenerational communion. The stone walls tell their ancient tales, while your hands explore the tools of the past, evoking the gestures of generations past. At the end of this timeless day, surrounded by your new creations, a moment of sharing opens up on ancient techniques and emotions. Each work of art, the mark of your passage, becomes a treasure to take home, a tangible souvenir of your adventure at the heart of history. This is how, at the Abbaye de la Lucerne, the past meets the present, and each visitor becomes, for the space of a moment, a guardian of history.
