Where the essential breathes

Granville Terre & Mer, where the essential breathes

Published on 28 January 2026

Winter energy and flavours at Granville Terre et Mer

Winter in Destination Granville Terre et Mer reveals a singular atmosphere, between the liveliness of the natural elements and gourmet pleasures. On the water, the more adventurous take to the wingfoil or windsurf between the islets of the Chausey archipelago, carried by the wind. On the menu, scallops and whelks reign supreme and can be enjoyed in restaurants where you can warm up by the fire. For thrill-seekers, the traditional sea bath can be enjoyed solo for a shot of vitality, or in a group with the “Au Bain Quotidien” association. And if you want to prolong the benefits of the sea air while staying warm, the Prévithal thalasso is the ideal place to recharge your batteries.

High winter tides in spring

At Destination Granville Terre et Mer, Europe’s highest tides are a spectacular sight, with a tidal range of up to 14 metres. Twice a day, the sea recedes, revealing a vast foreshore where sand, rocks and shells breathe. Fishing on foot is a long-established tradition here . Fishermen put on their boots, grab buckets and rulers and set off in search of clams, cockles or periwinkles, depending on the season.

Colours & flowers, springtime experiences

With the return of fine weather, Granville Terre et Mer comes alive with colour: on the beach, frisbee players, the Granville Flyings Bulots, twirl their yellow, red and orange discs in a friendly atmosphere, in tune with the multicoloured sails of the catamarans gliding in the wind. Meanwhile, the doors of the educational farms and shared vegetable gardens are opening. A land of sharing, the passionate locals are keen to share their know-how. From an invigorating hike along the customs path to the restoration of a traditional mill in the heart of the Lucerne forest, there’s something for everyone. Spring is also the season of flavours: the blue lobster of Chausey inspires the local tables, and the must-visit addresses invite you to enjoy a terrace hidden in a courtyard or with your feet in the water. Flowers fill the fields and gardens, echoing the garden at Villa Les Rhumbs designed by the famous couturier Dior, or the Botanik’art Festival, which celebrates the creativity of plants that can be discovered by bike.

A taste of summer in moderation

Under the sunshine and with a gentle breeze, the summer days are stretching out in Granville Terre et Mer. Here, summer is seen in a different light: we’re slowing down, focusing on proximity and rediscovering simple pleasures. We’re changing our holiday habits to adopt a more sustainable pace. We’re making the most of straw huts with their feet in the water, or terraces that come alive with plates of shellfish, mussels and home-made ice creams. Get a taste of the great outdoors aboard a sailing boat, be it the Echo 90 or the old rigged “la bisquine”, “La Granvillaise”, offering the thrill of gliding along in all winds. You can paddle to the rhythm of a gentle breeze around the Pointe du Roc or paddle in the Havre de la Vanlée. You can be creative in the gardens of the Château de Chanteloup, creating your own natural cosmetics. As the sun sets, hikers continue their discovery on a walk under the stars in Jullouville. At the end of the day, it’s time to take a breather at the O2 campsite, which has been awarded the “Accueil Vélo” label, and Lez Eaux, which has been awarded the “Clé Verte” label, nestling quietly among the trees.

Between orchards, sea spray and forests, autumn in Granville Terre et Mer

Autumn is punctuated by the changing colours of the trees and the luminous skies, which change with the equinox tides. Lovers of outdoor activities can enjoy mountain biking and horse riding in the heart of the Oiselière valley before relaxing in the country gîtes. In Philippe Leroy’s orchards, you can explore all the facets of apples and taste cider, the fruit of local know-how. The Lucerne forest is perfect for a walk or an introduction to relaxation therapy with Aimie. Thrill-seekers can take advantage of the overcast conditions during windy water sports sessions, such as windsurfing or sand yachting, accompanied by the first migratory birds that come to nest in the bay of Mont Saint Michel.

Green Destination 2025 Otgtm

Green Destinations

In 2023, Granville Terre et Mer became the second French destination to receive the international Green Destinations label at Gold level, recognition by the World Council for Sustainable Tourism, accredited by the World Tourism Organisation, of the collective consideration given to the impact of tourism on an area by all its stakeholders. The impact is intended to be positive for visitors, the environment and local residents alike… Because Granville Terre et Mer is aware that it lives to the rhythm of nature, to the rhythm of the tides, like nowhere else. The Destination is renewing its certification in 2025, increasing its score from 60% to 75%, confirming its commitment.
